Morning Writing Warm-Up

Song: A Broken Tenor - The Promise Ring / My Life Is At Home - The Promise Ring

The forms were all in order. Mikey snapped the clipboard cover shut and waved the woman through. She shuffled, bent low to the ground, gripping the child's hand. The glare of the flourescents did violence to her features, carving long troughs of shadow out of her cheeks and under her eyes. The tap of her high heels, counterpointed by the soft patter of the child's running shoes, chased them down one long corridor after another, a Mikey at the head of each, clipboard snapping open then shut, waving them on and on and on. Finally, there was a door. It was nondescript, no letters, numbers, placards, or signs. A rectangle of plain, dark wood. A simple knob the woman twisted until, with a barely audible click, the door swung open. The child lead her through.

The room was empty save for a roll-away chalkboard, a milk crate, and a single chair/desk. The child lead the woman to the desk, pulled her down into the seat, climbed up on the milk crate, and wrote a single, squeaking word on the chalboard - MOTHER.

Markosia Publishing has put the first six issues of The Silver Bullet on Comixology! Why not pick up a few digital issues, huh? And then, you know, rate them...

C2E2!!!
C2E2 starts tomorrow. I'll be at table E18 in Artists' Alley with Will "The Redeemers" Brendel and Brett "Silver Bullet" Wood. New for the show, we'll have The Redeemers #3 and Silver Bullet Vol. 1 Trade Paperback. Will and Brett will be doing sketches and I will, as always, be doing my semi-famous Stories for a Buck. I'll also try to update the site from the show with anything interesting that happens, of course.

Wow.
Literally just finished Jennifer Egan's "a visit from the goon squad" and gottdam is it a wonderful book. Not a single false note, not a single clunky phrase. Something to aspire to.
